My
paintings derive from an ongoing investigation of color phenomenon and visual
perception. My process is deliberate and systematic. The grid provides an
organizational structure, within which color interacts; the juxtaposition of
layers generates depth, movement, and luminosity. Hue is interchangeable
between light and tone; light becomes hue, and hue becomes tone. These shifts
and subtle nuances require active looking and persistent, thoughtful examination.
This act of seeing is intimate and elicits a unique response that defies suitable
explanation through language. This experience furthers the notion that color
has power to convey meaning autonomous from image.
